The Email of Doom for Our Canteen

17 August 2006

To: Students

MAJOR UPGRADING AT THE DECK

The Office of Estate & Development will be carrying out major upgrading works to The Deck@FASS from mid-October 2006 to end July 2007.

The upgrading work is necessary to meet current National Environment Agency’s (NEA) standards for canteens/food courts e.g. proper separate cooking and serving areas, tray return and washing points, etc. With years of usage and the increasing number of students, there are also problems like leaking roof, poor ventilation and limited power supply capacity in the existing canteen which require enhancement. It is therefore timely now to renovate and improve on the serviceability of The Deck (Arts Canteen).

The seating capacity at new Deck will be about 1300, up from 1000, and spread over two levels to meet the growing demands for more seats at this popular canteen by staff and students.

We seek your understanding for any inconvenience caused during the renovation period. OED, OSA and NUSSU are exploring alternative dining venues to help minimise dining inconvenience during this period.

Alternative venues or other arrangements for dining are being considered at the following locations :

1) The Terrace @ BIZ
2) The Techno Edge @ Engine
3) Cafe at LT12
4) Cafe at the Forum
5) Dining Halls at Eusoff and Temasek Halls
6) Food Wagons & Push Carts at the Forum

These alternative venues or arrangements will be confirmed in September 2006.

To understand your dining needs better, a roadshow on what the upgrading works will encompass will be held along the corridor outside LT9 from 21 to 25 August 2006. Please visit the roadshow and provide us with your valuable feedback to help us further improve on your dining experience@Deck.

Please contact my colleague, Miss xxx(xxx@nus.edu.sg) if you need any clarifications.

Thank you

NooOO!

The arts canteen, where we once dined in our freshmen year and held wonderful memories for the OG of Aloe Vera, under Achar house, is going to be closed for renovation! Till July next year!

Time to eat the grass around the Lover's Park.

And the email actually tells us the alternative places to eat eg

Science Canteen
Engineering Canteen
etc...

Duh! Like we know that. But it won't feel the same! :*&@%$@#%
Ok I'm fine already.

I won't be any more sad than you are.

Frostbled is without a bassist. Amongst other bad things that happened today.

Can't Sleep After Watching This Animation

Because of the funny picture I saw at a blog and the caption, I decided to ask for more. And here's the results. Will be more effective if you know what happened with Zidane during the France vs Italy match, World Cup 2006.

1. Found at NUS student's blog.
2. Random search result from google.

An opportunistic Chinese entrepreneur actually tried to trademark the silhouette of the headbutting action and sell it. Full article here.

Useless fact of the day: How can I give up a chance to share this term that I came across in the midst of "research"? A Glasgow handshake is the urban slang for giving someone a headbutt. Also known as Glasgow Kiss (John Petrucci has a song by that name if i'm not wrong!), it has enriched my geographical imagination!
