Wow!

On my way to bed, but this caught my attention! A torrent tracking site.

V For Vendetta (2006) TS HooKah KVCD...609.67MB 1138 1791

where 1138 is seeds, and 1791 is the downloaders

Piracy is still rampant, intellectual property remains unrespected. Feel sad for the producers of it. They are entitled to the amount of revenue, who are we to judge that they're earning "a lot of money from the sales all along". What about paying $200 for an SKII mask when the production cost is at least 40% lower (retail jackup)? It's just that the SKII is tangible and imitators can be brought to court easily. Theories of CNM: "once a media product is sold, the industry cannot control it", in this case proliferation of downloadable copies of movies that is just released the likes of V for Vendetta, Brokeback Mountain etc.

How to curb a problem like this? When everybody else thinks everyone else is doing it and it's ok to do so, in unity there's strength and "there's no way they can catch us all". One day we may produce intellectual property (hereafter known as IP) that we need to protect to reach that stream of passive income. So that we don't slog our a$$ off for someone perched up on the hierarchy for life.

If students commit IP infringement most often, and they are not able to afford any fines, the parents would be the victims of it. To leave the media comanies to their own devices is not wise either, as Sony took matters into its own hands by using the rootkit code that exposes users' computers to malware.

Something to argue about. VVat vexing ambiValence!
