The "Me" Generation

What the news says - college students, compared to those 20 years ago, are more self-centred, have high expectations and are not prepared to put in effort. It is said that relationships would last for shorter periods of time but the emotions felt are more true. This is attributed partly to the reason that they have to grow up faster.

They are said to react violently to criticisms too.

Well said. But then again, I realise that what score in university are criticisms. Just merely supporting the status quo doesn't seem to go down well. It gets you by, but it just doesn't score well. The more controversial and debatable, the better. In a way, we have to criticize others' work and during presentations, defend others' criticisms of our own work. Since we know there's no such thing as a perfect project, there'll always be weak spots to attack. And compared to last time, there may have been much more tried and tested roads for honours theses and project topics. Maybe that explains why the aggression and stress current undergrads feel, the need to be original but yet also be stuck "referring" to older pieces of work. There's only so many times you can redo and review and refine a research topic.

So don't fret if you're not doing well. You're probably too nice a person to criticize. Like me ^^!
