Taking the Next Step

A convenient excuse to put less priority on studies during the final lap of undergraduate studies actually, but have been sending out close to 10 serious applications to organizations I'm interested in working with, MICA, CAAS, MFA, MINDEF. Some random ones that caught my attention were from jobsdb and those job portals which is seriously not meant to be individually applied for, IMHO. Those are meant to be mass applied in batches, hence the batch function in jobsdb. Wonder when they'll ever trawl through to my little presence in this little corner of the island?

So there're all these courses out there for you to further your skills during career fairs, but the actual recruiters happen to be MOE, the Police and other uniformed groups ie those with high occupational hazards. Not to sound pessimistic and worried, because the loan has been suspended till next year. Which means some might really take that long to get employed. With the recent announcement by UBS to lay off up to 8000 jobs, even those few hundreds opened by CAAS and MOM might not be able to meet the demand. I think the worse thing that can happen despite all these is landing yourself a dead-end job. Not very encouraging to have 4 calls just this week alone telling me to for an interview regarding a "financial consultancy" role, and most recently, one with "HR, Admin, Sales and marketing" positions available :C While half truths can get you over the initial rejection phase, what if people studied so much precisely for the purpose of not walking the path. Starting the first lie by not disclosing the nature of the job and the company name already invites the criticism, the backlash after people are excited hoping to find prospective career paths that relate to the field that they majored in.

Graduating in bad times does indeed have a dampening effect on morale. Hang in there!
