Yes, online is a world of its own. It has good people, bad people, thieves, robbers as well.
If you purchase things online, I would recommend that you use separate accounts with your siblings, especially more if you stay under the same roof. Brushing convenience aside, there really is no reason for sharing accounts even on the internet, what more free services like online shopping identities. Here are some reasons:
i) I could piece together a lot of information from one user id, whether or not it is their intention. The reason is because they bought items from me many times, some by the sister and some by the brother. So each of them had different preferences on receiving the item, some gave contact numbers and some gave mailing address. Not a good idea to share accounts as people can easily figure you and your family out when you disclose different levels of information, due to the age and hence level of innocence and blind trust.
ii) It puzzled me as a seller initially as to how come the buyer requested me to mail the item over, citing issues of transport as she lives quite far from the areas of delivery. Then the "same" buyer asks for a meet up.
iii) Get a separate account so that we can both improve ratings! Places like yahoo! auctions considers increases in positive ratings only for unique dealings with other users. So one account buying two items from me only increases both our ratings by one.
I wonder how long before people start taking the internet as something like communication that is not mediated, and would the mean world syndrome affect them eventually, such that the trust given to an online stranger would even be less than the people they meet and have physically interacted with.
